ABSENT FROM UK / IUCN Red List: Least Concern IUCN Red List: Not Yet Evaluated 

An endemic beetle of the Southern Iberian peninsula. As we travelled through the sandy scrub near El Rocio, this species was one of two abundant species of large beetle that we saw.  Although I haven't been able to find much information on this specific species, the darkling beetles as a whole are scavengers found in deserts and forests, which would fit this species.

A tiny but brightly coloured beetle found on the Southern coast of the UK, it favours plants such as wild carrot and wild thyme on dry grassland and sand dunes.  Locally they can apparently be very common, and can be seen feeding on pollen and nectar.  As there are no other entirely bright yellow beetles in the UK, even at this small size it is a distinctive species.
