The most widely distributed of the US hummingbirds and the only one primarily found in the West of North America, the Ruby-throated is an adaptable species found from Canada to Texas in Summer, and Wintering in Mexico, Central America and Southern Florida.  Named for the throat plumage or gorget of the smaller male, which is irridescent red when fully developed.
