Despite the name, the American Robin is not actually related to the Robins found in Eurasia and is infact a member of the Thrush family, connected by only having a red chest. They are the most abundant bird species in North America, present at different times of the year from the Southern border of Mexico to all but the Arctic fringes of Alaska and Canada.
