An endemic breeder to the Great Plains and unusually for Gulls, rarely seen at the Coast in North America, except on passage. At the beginning of the breeding season they develop a faint pink tint on the chest and abdomen but the pigments decay over time and it is generally lost by the end of the breeding season.
