A widespread species found from Southern Texas to Patagonia in every mainland country except Chile. On my visit to Costa Rica I personally found them to perhaps the most archetypal species of my birding there where their call for part of which they are named for ("kisssk-A-deeeee") being a common background sound to my time there. They often perch on exposed posts and branches to hunt from.
