This species possesses an unusual bit of sexual dimorphism where in the North of their range the sexes are highly dimorphic where the female is drab, while the population gets further South, both sexes have bright colouration. This is believed to be because with more abundant resources in the tropics, greater territoriality is required to be shared between the partners.
