A hummingbird of Central American lowlands, with a distinctive straight bright pink beak with a black tip. They are relatively tolerant of degraded habitats and their overall population is currently believed to be generally stable. It was formerly considered to be a member of the genus Hylocharis and some sources still seem to categorise it as such.
