A large pigeon that represents the closest living relative of the extinct passenger pigeon, they are found along the Western borders and Coast of the US up to around Vancouver, as well as a sporadic distribution at higher altitudes through Central America and down into the Andres. They also have the distinction of being the sole native pigeon of California.
