The Giant House Spider is likely one of the most familiar spiders to residents of Europe - it is among the largest of the continent and can frequently be seen scaling walls inside homes. Until recently, this was considered a single species, but more recent taxonomy has split it into three species that can only be separated with analysis under a microscope. However, it is Eratigena duellica which is the most common species in the UK by a large margin, and therefore this is most likely the species represented here.
