A widely distributed species found from Portugal to Japan, as well as being introduced in North America. The individual pictured is a female about to lay eggs - at this point their abdomen enlarges greatly to the point it extends well beyond the elytra. They feed on a wide variety of plants including asters, brassicas, St John's wort, scabius and thyme.
