A widely distributed carnivorous species of fish natively found from France and Britain to Siberia which has introduced populations in various locations worldwide due to its popularity in angling. In places such as Australia and New Zealand it is considered invasive and will cause issues for native species. It is a widely consumed species in mainland Europe, and is additionally the national fish of Finland.
