A small bird found from the Southern border of the USA to the Northern border of Panama where they favour forests with scattered larger trees. They make large pear shaped nests uspended from lower branches with an entrance at the bottom. Primarily insectives, they primarily hunt by plucking invertibrates from branches and leaves.

A widespread species found in much of Central and South America, they are omnivorous, primarily feeding on fruit and invertibrates largely in mid-story and canopy of trees. Formerly, the tityras were considered to be members of the tyrant flycatchers, but recent genetic evidence has had them separated to their own group which also includes the becards and mourners among other things.
