A member of the raccoon family found from Texas and New Mexico to Colombia. Female coatis live in groups called bands while adult males are solitary except in the mating season. They are opportuinistic omnivores and will feed on a range of food including fruit, carrion, invertebrates, eggs and even snakes. They are forest dwellers, but are very adaptable within that being found in both wet and dry forests and altitudes from sea level to 3000m.
