Agoutis are large rodents native to Central and South America and as the name suggests, this species is found from the Yucatan to Colombia and Ecuador. Agoutis live in monogamous pairs and forage on the forest floor, particularly for fruit and they act as important seed dispersers in this capacity. Here some individuals had taken up living in the around Rescate Wildlife Rescue Centre - a somewhat cushy habitat as there is a lot of food and little in the way of predators compared to a truely wild section of forest.
