A fairly large butterfly found particularly in Oak woodland, it can produce up to three generations annually and in some instances even survive through Winter. Due to it's larval foodplant of canyon live oak and coast live oak it is very unpalatable to predators and thus other species mimic it's patternation for their own defense. We saw them primarily in the hills above Berkeley
