A species with a small range in Western Costa Rica and Nicaragua, and a  recent split from the Steely-vented Hummingbird which has a dijunct range primarily in Colombia. However, the IUCN follows one of the few taxonomic systems to have not split it and therefore it hasn't been assessed.
