The Blue Ground Skimmer is a comparatively common species in Malaysia, it has a high degree of sexual dimorphism with the male being the blue that the name suggests while the female is far more predominantly yellow.  It is found thoughout Southern Asia and Australia.  This species breeds in wide varieties of water bodies including ponds, lakes, rice fields and irrigation canals.
