A small relative of the Goldeneyes whose breeding range is almost entirely within Canada, they are a tree-nesting duck using the nesting cavities of Northern Flicker nearto Water, although they must compete with other species that also use this strategy. They are diving ducks and feed primarily on insects, crustaceans and molluscs.
